Mindanao Blogs Blogged!!

Blogging is new to me (had one just three days ago!), hence, I am not in the position to be a “reviewer” although being one looks good for the curriculum vitae!). However, when our resource person for the ICT Training* Ms. Janette Toral challenged us to participate in the Review a BLOG contest!” focusing on the Mindanao blogs, I took the challenge and visited the directories because I believe Mindanao has so much to offer: places to visit, variety of fruits, food and goods, the diversity of the peoples and cultures, etc.! (My initial reason for joining is the free book, a useful future reference; the other was Ms. Toral is a very good and convincing resource person!)

When I clicked the Mindanao blog directory, I never expected to find 229 blogs with 122(!) from Davao alone! It is very possible that this number will still go up! I just hope though that there will be bloggers from the ARMM region by then! The category in the directory I visited (just for the moment due to time constraint) was Blogs from Mindanao Lovers since I am also a non-Mindanaoan and chose from the group the names and quotations/description below the names that appeal the most to me at that moment.

“Some random thoughts, feelings, observations, and bric-a-bracs about life and pluto” of Inkblots: Life Unraveled attracted my attention right away; it has an element of reflection and mystery as well as certain openness and adventurism! The topics and issues it discussed were valuable, relevant and sensible, not to mention varied among them: suicide, problems with call centers, and Anne H. (whether we deny it or not, we all love entertainment, love the entertainers although not all of them, and love to be enterntained!)

Add to that are the great photographs in the blog found in Photographs and Memories ! Two of the images I like most were the "Ivatans by the Sunset" and the "Grand Nanny"! Pardon my subjectivity, but photographs of sunrise and sunset with people really never bore me! There is something about this subject that calms me down especially when I very tense and bordering on craziness. Maybe the sunrise gives me hope and a reason to rejoice that another day has come; maybe the sunset provides me solace that, at the end of the day, there is the time to rest, reflect, be thankful and be accepting. Add to that the power of the sun!

Oh, yes and the photo “Grand Nanny”! The eyes of the grandmother dotingly carrying the grandson is so peaceful and so reassuring to the grandson who, in turn, looks so contented! Well, who would not be! We Filipinos are known, among others, for our being family oriented and closely knit regardless of the differences within the family. And Lolas are pillars one always rely on no matter what!

Likewise, I was surprised -never expected- to see a section “Development Perspectives” in a blog. So, I gave it a quick visit, out of curiosity on what it offers. It has at least three subcategories on governance, law and justice, and poverty alleviation plus comments, additional blogs and sites to visit on similar topics. This gives me an impression that the person who manages and owns Inkblots: Life Unraveled is a multi-faceted individual who is not only concern with oneself but with others as well. Inkblots revised my mis-perception that bloggers only write in their blogs about themselves and those "mundane" things that concerns their world.

To end, I only knew about blogs and its power three days ago and I still have so much to learn from all these bloggie things! I only realized the immense power of the blogs just now! The images, words, and what-have-you that can be put in the blog! Its connectivity and information capability! This project is commendable for it not only show, among others, the beauty of Mindanao but also the immense power of information technology as well as the power at fingertips, especially of the people who have the know-how in ICT!

MY AFFAIR WITH NET!

TEN years! Come to think of it, I just realized that my affair with NET is now TEN years!

Looking back, I remember that, back then, the only reason why I chose to -- well slightly forced to-- meet Net was socialization! A friend invited us to meet some of her friends who live in MyFamily and my sister and I said yes. The only requirement is we have to know Net first before we would be allowed in MyFamily. “Easy,” I said, that will not be a problem!”

So, off we went to Expression in Ever, befriended the supervisor to give us the choicest seat and help us get to know Net better to allow us to visit MyFamily community, and eventually meet ccharmss, joe21, drwho, cowgirl, aussie, and others whose names I can't remember anymore.

When Net and I started our affair, there was really no sparks, as they call it. We were introduced, I said (to myself), “Oh your Net! You look harmless and cute!” And that’s it! But it is not really a simple “it” of course. I have to learn how interact and be sensitive to those others whom Net cant live without! There was Hard Drive who must be well taken care of because if HD breaks down, I will have a big problem! Then, there is the Mouse who could be clicked left and right properly. And oh, I must not forget, Key Board or KB! If you know what to press in KB, you will discover a lot!

By the way, Net has a lot of secrets! You ask it, Net knows it! It’s just a matter of knowing what you want and Net will give it, no questions ask! The most important thing is just be sure to know what you want! Net initially showed me Yahoo! And I loved it and still do! In Yahoo, Net allowed me to communicate with my friends and family who are near and far, share secrets, express my self! Then, later on, Net introduced me to Google, who was and is reeeally very helpful in my problems! Likewise, MSN who knows a lot of things!

Well, TEN years! Come to think of it, I just realized that my affair with NET is now TEN years and our affair is getting stronger, I mean, from my perspective! In fact, we are inseparable! Of course, there are still a lot of things I got to know about Net but that is really fine with me! I am willing to spend some time just to be with NET.

TEN years with NET! Not bad for someone whose only reason to met NET was to be with MyFamily!
